Date: Tue, 15 Feb 2011 08:08:26 -0600 Subject: Climbing Club meeting minutes from 2/14/11 From: Bethany Drury To: mountaineers@iastate.edu Hello everyone, Here is what you need to know from the meeting last night: -Unfortunately, we may have to cancel the ice climbing trip that we had scheduled for Feb. 20 due to the warm weather, so just be sure to watch your email for updates about that. The daytime temperature has to be consistently below freezing for the ice silo to have good climbing ice on it. -UNI is hosting a boulder competition on Feb. 26th, which the club has allocated funds for so that we can pay half of the entrance fee of anyone who goes with the club. We are also able to rent an ISU vehicle, which will help everyone save money on gas. If you would like to go with the climbing club, please send me an email when you have registered so that I know to pay you back half of your registration fee and so that I can organize the drive up to UNI. The registration form can be found here: http://www.uni.edu/wellrec/outdoor_recreation/docs/RockrevRegistration2011.pdf -The climbing club will be going to Horseshoe Canyon Ranch in AK over spring break! The trip cost will be $65 per person and climbing and camping fees at Horseshoe will be $10 per person per day. Everyone is allowed to go on one club trip before paying dues, so even if you have not yet paid dues you can still come, as long as this is your first trip with the club. The cost of the actual trip applies to everyone though. Sign up for the trip will begin on Feb. 28, so be thinking about whether you want to come along. More information about Horseshoe Canyon Ranch can be found here: http://climbhcr.com/ -Now that we all know about what to wear while climbing, thanks to Ryan's excellent presentation, you should all be thinking about what clothes you need to bring on climbing trips for the rest of the semester. I know outdoor clothing and equipment can be pretty confusing, so please feel free to ask any questions you may have. -The club will be having its unofficial climbing time at Wall-Nut Creek this Wed. from 7:00-9:00pm and since the weather is supposed to be warm I'm sure there will be a lot of people going. If you would like to go and need a ride, feel free to email me. Info about Wall-Nut can be found here: http://www.iowaclimbing.com/ I think that's everything! If you have any questions about anything please send me an email. I hope you all have a great week! -- Bethany Drury President, Trip Coordinator ISU Mountaineering and Climbing Club
